Importance of understanding lock-in effect in Emerging Markets

In terms of impact, in developing countries such as China, India, Indonesia and Sub-Sahara Africa where building growth is around 4-5%, over time the population of ‘new buildings’ that conform to the green buildings regulation will be as,  if mot more, significant as the current existing buildings stock. If we don't construct efficient building today we could end up with white elephants of infrastructure in the future, much like what we see in developed counties such as USA and Europe.
